Youth Ministry
If you're a teenager in high school, waking
up
for church on Sunday is probably not tops on your list.
That's why our Youth Group will never force itself
on any unsuspecting teens, but anyone is welcome to discover us!
St. Mark's Youth Group welcomes young adults in senior high to explore
their spirituality, be involved in their community and form new
friendships with teens with similar interests.
We hold
a regular class for
grades 9-12 during the
9:45 am Sunday School hour
in "The Dungeon."
This may already sound like torture, but it's actually
a pretty cozy and comfortable place to hang out! You don't have
to belong to St. Mark's to come, as our youth regularly bring their
friends along. Seeing new faces every week makes for a charged and
lively atmosphere.
The Youth Group also embarks on activities and trips
on a regular basis!
Our Youth who have returned this fall can tell you about our traditional
summer trip to West Virginia's Psalm 23 work camp, the Youth Conference
at Virginia Beach, and outreach in the community to visit shut-ins
and the residents of Sojourner's Place.
What have
we been up to lately?
The Youth Group's year is off to a busy start. If
you want to join us for Sunday School make sure you get there early
or you will have to sit on the floor. We have had some lively debates
about political issues and what God would think about these issues.
President Bush won the election in our Sunday School also.
If you have not seen the artwork in the Dungeon come
pay us a visit. It is probably not something that you would want
in your living room but it is very colorful. We had a lock-in last
month to take time to paint the dungeon. We also put together an
early Christmas gift from Santa Claus, a Foosball table. Thanks
again to Santa, whoever he/she is.
Some of the youth group has started a youth band
under the leadership of Cathy Irwin. The name of the band is "J.I.L.T."
which stands for Jesus I Love Thee. We have a lot of talented musicians
and singers but we are always looking for other people to join us.
You don't have to be a musician. We will find something that you
can help with.
In September many of us did the LCS walk and also
participated in the lock-in at St. Stephens. It was a lot of fun
but tiring because we HAD to stay up all night. It was great to
meet other kids from area churches.
We are already planning our big trips for the year
to the Youth Conference in March in Virginia Beach, March 4-6. If
anybody wants to go please contact John or Ellen Rendle@ 425-4977.
The second trip is our mission trip to Gap Mills, West Virginia,
July 3rd- 9th. It will be our 10th year going and we are inviting
anybody who wants to go. So, even if you might not be considered
a "youth" anymore but are still young at heart come join
us for a week of doing what God calls us to do. Again, contact John
and Ellen if you are interested. They will need an $80.00 deposit
to hold a spot.
Finally, the homemade candy is coming. We will be
selling it at the Christmas Bazaar and the two Sundays before Christmas.
It's delicious and makes a great gift. This is our biggest fund-raiser
of the year. Thanks in advance for supporting us now and in the
past.
See ya soon, The Youth
If
